SCC minutes for Sunday, October 15, 1995
Attending: Bryan, Andy, Scott H., Brent, Craig, Laurie, Ryan, Teresa, Tim,
Scott L., Krista, Korie, Nate, Andrew.
The meeting began with devotions by Ryan.
Treasurer's Report
Craig distributed budget proposals for this coming year, which we then discussed and
modified slightly.
At the next couple worship services, we'll be reminded about the student
fund-raising effort, an appeal directed only to students, not alumni or others.
SCC members are going to call the most active students and remind them about
this campaign. Also, Craig reminded us that there are vouchers that
we need to fill out to get reimbursed for committee expenses.
Committee Reports
- Outreach (Scott Hanson).
The committee meets Mondays at 5:00 and has set the last Monday of each month
as group calling night. All SCC members are strongly encouraged to attend
at least one group calling night.
- Worship is still going well.
- Education (Tim Koehler and Ryan Anderson).
They have November's fireside chat lined up.
- Social Ministry (Teresa Palumbo and Korie Lebert).
They plan to cook a cheap cost supper one day in November and donate the
money saved to Oxfam. Other hunger-related plans are a canned food drive
in November, fasting for Oxfam the Thursday before Thanksgiving,
taking donations for the homeless at the Martin Luther's birthday dance,
and baking cookies for kids at the YWCA.
- Social Activities (Krista Bultmann).
November's party is the Martin Luther's birthday dance and potluck on November
10th. The Winter Banquet is December 8th at the Senior Center. Krista will
need a few people to help decorate and may
get Carl Anderson to cater the banquet.
- Hospitality (Nate Blair and Andy Lubansky).
The LCC web page is now up at
http://www.engr.wisc.edu/~blairn/lcc/lcc.html.
- Staff: Their stewardship class begins in a week and a half.
Old Business
- At the Welcome Banquet, people left before the entertainment
began. We need better emceeing next year, to tell people to stick around
for the
show and so they know what's happening.
We agreed that the food was great.
- Next semester, the staff will supplement the U.S. Mail notices with
electronic mail reminders.
New Business
- We need to decide which charities will get our offerings this year.
We'll split the year into seven periods, each receiving approximately the
same amount of money: January/February, March, April/May, June/July/August,
September, October, and November/December. We decided to let the Social
Ministry committee recommend recipients of our offering instead of making
the whole SCC fight about it.
