Minutes of the Student Coordinating Committee Meeting, Sun, Feb. 20, 1994 Attending: Jodi, Jon, Eric, Sara, Jessica, Brent, Laurie, Jeremy, Krista, Scott The meeting opened with devotions by Scott. 1. The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted. 2. Treasurer's report: We have about $1000 left in the student budget to spend the rest of the semester. Someone has to pay for the Ray McKeever retreat, about $400. We agreed that the student account will pay for half, while the Campus Center budget will cover the other half. 3. Committee reports. Outreach: Many people brought friends to the bring-a-friend service February 9th. The committee is still having group calling nights; the next one is February 27th. Worship: For Lent, we will be using the Cornell setting of the LBW service. The committee is also planning an interesting Earth Day service. They want to receive more input or comments about worship; right now, only three people are making decisions that affect everyone. So they will ask for comments after an upcoming service. Because of the success of the 9 PM Ash Wednesday worship, Brent suggested holding 9:00 services all through Lent next year to serve more worshippers. Social Activities: Upcoming activities are a ballroom dance (with lessons) on Friday, Feb. 25 and a community potluck and game night on March 11. Social Ministry: Thursday noon lunches are continuing with dicussion of the ELCA report on human sexuality. Directing Committee: The SCC has been invited to choose someone to serve on the call committee for our third staff member. Jeremy is interested if his schedule allows it. Staff: Jodi is in chare of posters for the sign board outside and looks for people to make them. Laurie is teaching Ukrainian egg decorating after cost supper during Lent. 4. SCC and DC retreat: Even though it started early in the morning, we agreed that it was good to be done by noon and have the rest of the day free. At the retreat, we were glad to have a chance to interact with the DC and meet them. Laurie suggested continuing the interaction by inviting some non-student DC members to Wednesday worship occasionally. 5. The men's and women's retreat was enjoyed by all who went. The relatively small number of participants encouraged much better discussion. 6. Laurie's review is coming up in March. Students are invited to give their input on Wednesday, March 9 after supper. 7. Staff is trying to get a room in Memorial Union for Sunday worship services after Easter. They would like to have Tripp Commons and between 50 and 100 participants. 8. The study retreat is coming! It will be April 29 to May 1 at Bethel Horizons. We will charge about $19.95, about enough to cover housing, and the student budget will pay for the rest of the costs (i.e. food). 9. We will have another blood drive this Spring, perhaps April 11-15. Krista may organize this one. The work involved is small: a few hours from one person posting signs and encouraging people to give.
