Minutes of the SCC meeting, Sunday, March 21, 1993. Attending: Laurie, Kathy, Barbie, Jessica, Tim, Jodi, Kevin, Jeremy, Tom, Carl, Sara, Scott 1. The museum mile was a success even though attendance was low. 2. Both Ash Wednesday services were well-attended; the extra service will be a regular Ash Wednesday occurence. 3. Committee Reports Outreach: Their calling night Feb. 22 reached many people. The next calling night is March 29; all are welcome to come. Worship: "Now the Feast and Celebration" will be used for the Easter season services; the sermon theme is "The Lord of the Dance." April 21 will be a student-produced Earth Day-centered service. The committee has also begun studying the series "What worship is all about". Fine Arts: A women's art exhibit is being displayed during March. April's exhibit is nature photography, and May's is a display by Verona High School students. April 16 is the trip to the UW Band concert; 20 people are going. Social Ministries: Recruiting for the blood drive (March 29 - April 2) has begun. Our goal is to get more than 30 donors. A Habit for Humanity work day will be planned, probably sometime this summer. Education: Alice's class started last week. Jodi's class didn't run on Tuedays--too many people had conflicts. But it will run Mondays at 3:30 during April. Social Activities: Lisa Roberts is too busy to chair the committee this semester, so we still need a Social Activities chair. Directing Committee: They have begun to discuss Tom's idea to remove the planter (wall) next to the fireplace. This would make the living room area more open and large enough to use for worship services. It could be part of a renovation of the building; any additional ideas should be given to Tim or Renee. Also, Brent has accepted the call to be the new LCC director; Tom will leave June 1st. Staff Report: Laurie spent the weekend with the LSM council. The retreat is at the center April 2-4, with the topic of hospitality. 4. Thursday, April 16 is a Passover Seder meal with Hillel and other campus ministries. It will be a tradtional Seder, with the service in Hebrew. For LCC attendees, we will subsidize $5 of the $10 cost. 5. No recipient of offerings had been selected yet this semester. Offerings given before the LSM retreat (before April 1) will go to the Tellurian shelter for women and children, and Ash Wednesday and the rest of the semester's offerings will go to Lutheran World Relief. 6. The study retreat is April 30 to May 2 at Bethel Horizons. We hope to have 30 people go (signups end Wed April 21). The actual cost is $10 per night plus the food we cook, for a total of about $30. Cost to attendees will be $18, including Friday and Saturday lodging and Saturday breakfast through Sunday breakfast. We will ask Bethel and Luther Memorial if they are willing to subsidize part of the cost; if neither will, then the $12 per person subsidy will come from the student account. 7. SCC elections will be held on April 14th at Wednesday worship. Some current members are running for re-election, but several positions have no candidates yet. Candidates are needed for o Chair o Vice Chair o Outreach o Worship o Social Ministries (one or two co-chairs) o Education o Social Activities o Directing Committee (one or two new members) Anyone interested in these positions, or any other positions on the Student Coordinating Council, is encouraged to run.
