Minutes of the SCC meeting, Sunday, September 20, 1992. Attending: Barbie, Sara, Kevin, Matt, Andy, Jessica, Scott, Jodi, Laurie, Tom. The meeting opened with devotions by Barbie. 1. The LCC retreat (Sept. 6-7) went very well. Next year's retreat has been scheduled for the weekend after Labor Day, 1993, the same weekend as Bethel's American Player's Theatre trip (the retreat would end before the APT trip.) 2. Discussion of the welcome banquet. Does LMs basement really feel like a welcoming place? Can we do something to make the welcome banquet better? Ideas discussed were i. Change the programming so it is more organized and less delayed. ii. Incorporate the banquet into the worship--rejected as the service should be representative of our usual worship. iii. Make the banquet into an LCC welcoming event, and let LM welcome students after one of their services (encouraging all students to go to that service). Then the LCC welcome could be held in the MPR after the Wednesday worship. 3. Good News Singers representative on the SCC? We could not think of anyone to invite to join us, so someone will ask Alice for ideas. 4. The Lutheran Brotherhood fund-raising letter has not reached students yet, but over $100 has been rasied already. 5. We decided to change our name. Our new name is the Student Coordinating Committee, the favorite suggestion from the last meeting. 6. When we receive the money from our fund-raising, we will need a treasurer. Kathy Cottingham had previously expressed interest; we will ask her if she is still interested. Also, the ad hoc treasury committee will likely consist of Kathy, Barbie, Scott, and Bonnie. 7. Blood Drive: The Red Cross was glad to hear that we will sponsor a blood drive sometime during Lent. Jessica, Barbie, and Jodi will coordinate it. Eventually, additional volunteers will be needed. 8. Committee Reports Outreach: Plans one big visiting night a month. They meet Thursdays at 4:00, followed by calling. Worship: Would like to have SCC members be friendly at the happy half hour, which will now be strictly ended at 5:30 so worship starts on time. Fine Arts: Wendi may have volunteered to chair the committee. A reception is scheduled for Sunday Oct. 4, 11:00-1:00, for the current artist. Social Ministry: The first lunch, Thursday Sept 24, will be a brainstorming and planning session. The topic until mid-October is big issues such as the upcoming elections and health care. Education: Jodi's class starts Sept 23. Social Activities: Noise Night is happening Sat. Sept 26. Directing Committee: The call committee is still working. They will report to students on their progress and ask for feedback; a candidate is visiting soon. 9. Recycling: Using real plates at dinner is part of our effort to help preserve the environment by not using paper plates. But it has been hard to get dishwashers to volunteer, so we will ask people to rinse their own dishes after supper; then dishwashing will be much easier.
