Minutes of the CCC meeting, Wednesday, September 2, 1992. Attending: Barbie, Renee, Devin, Larry, Jessica, Tim, Dave, Sara, Kevin, Jodi, Laurie, Tom, Kathy, Andy, Scott. 1. We will meet on the third Sunday of every month, 7-9 PM. The next meeting will be Sept. 20th. 2. The staff members responsible for various CCC committees are Tom: Worship and Outreach; Jodi: Fine Arts and Education; Laurie: Social Ministries and Social Activities. 3. We discussed enlarging the CCC, so that meetings could be productive even if a few members aren't able to attend. We will invite the three student Directing Committee members, invite the Good News Singers to send a representative, and select a treasurer (see item 9). 4. Responsibilities of CCC officers: the chairs should form committees (like the worship and outreach committees), and try to involve new people on them. This will help encourage new visitors to the center to become more active, and will also spread out the work of organizing center activities and programs. The committees will write up reports including their goals, coming events, and intermediate needs. These reports will then be kept in a committee notebook and can be used to help orient new chairs and committee members. 5. There is now a student office for CCC members to use. It has a phone, supplies, and shelves for our use, and is kept locked (Laurie distributed keys to us.) 6. Welcome banquet is Sept. 16. We decided to adapt a song/skit of Renee's to introduce the CCC to newcomers. Practice is scheduled for Wednesday (Sept. 9) after service. Renee volunteered to lead grace, Andy will make table decorations, and Scott and Tim volunteered to set tables at 4:30. The outreach group will distribute a list of names (LCC visitors and pastoral referrals), and CCC members will be responsible for inviting them to the banquet and making them feel welcome. 7. Outreach committee reported that their first visitation is Wed. Sept 9th, and everyone is invited to join in the visiting. 8. Of the worship offerings, 25% go for worship supplies, and 75% is donated to charity, approximately $25-50 a month. We decided to send the summer's donations to the Missionary Aviation Fellowship, and the September and October donations to Lutheran World Relief to help victims of hurricane Andrew. 9. Tom told us that Lutheran Brotherhood gives $500 matching grants to student worship groups, and that the LCC has applied for one. We need to raise $500, then LB will match that. This year's grant will be used to purchase new banners to put outside, facing Unversity, and also for worship supplies such as candle holders. If we get this money, the CCC may open a student account. Then we would need to select a treasurer to handle the money. 10. Many LCCers, including those who have been around for a while, don't know what "CCC" stands for or what it does. So we discussed changing the name of the CCC. Suggestions included "Student Council", "Campus Council", and "Student Coordinating Committee", with the last one most-liked. Discussion will continue at the next meeting. 11. The Red Cross has asked if LCC would like to sponsor a blood drive or arrange one volunteer a week to give blood. We decided to sponsor a blood drive at the center, tentatively scheduled during Lent. Social Ministries will chiefly be in charge, but many volunteers will be needed on the day of the drive. We would like to get Bethel and Luther Memorial members to help, but more details will be decided later. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15.
