Minutes of the CCC meeting, August 29, 1991. Attending: Andy M., Scott L., Kathy C., Kathy O., Lisa L., Karen T., Jay, Mark E., Peter, Laurie, Cyndi, JoAnn, Wendy M.. Andy opened the meeting with devotions. 1. We set the meeting times at 8:45 on the first Wednesday of each month (following the class). 2. Cyndi outlined for us who makes decisions at the center. Nationally, the Lutheran Campus Ministries is a division of the education arm of the ELCA. The LCC gets its money from ELCA and chiefly from the synod through LCMWUM (Lutheran Campus Ministries of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan). Control of the center locally is through the Directing Committee, the CCC, and by the staff. The DC is composed of clergy and laymen from Bethel, Luther Memorial, and the Madison area along with three students; it sets major policy and the budget and controls hiring. The CCC comprises committee chairs, a president, chairman, and secretary; its function is to decide what programs will happen at the center. Finally, the staff is in charge of the day-to-day activities and makes sure that everything runs the way it should. 3. A short discussion of what the LCC's mission is and should be: We suggested that it was to nurture faith, but also to allow questioning and discussing the questions. 4. What should the CCC do at the welcome banquet September 18th? In the past, it has done slide shows. This time, we plan a skit (to be written by Lisa and Wendy). Cyndi will make up an LCC brochure to be put at each place, and we will try to seat one CCCer at each table. To encourage more people to come to the banquet, we will announce it at the next Wednesday services. 5. We talked about ways to make the center friendlier to newcomers. Some possibilities: reproducing the setting in the bulletin to avoid having to hold so many books; posting the announcements so they can be easily seen by those who come to the center outside of services; and allowing informal announcements (e.g. of parties or joyous events) before cost supper. Andy will make a calendar to be used for Center events (but not to announce private parties, etc.). 6. In order to help unite the CCC, Cyndi suggested a group-builing event, such as the Bethel Horizons ropes course. 7. Mark and last year's winter banquet commitee thought there wasn't much enthusiasm for an expensive winter banquet last year, so this year we will instead have more Christmas activities, likely including a nice (catered) cost supper for under $10. The Spring banquet will be the big event of the year, our chance to wish the graduates well. It will also be in April to avoid the finals crush in May. 8. Finally, the CCC members (as opposed to the staff) were encouraged to take responsibility for signing up cost supper cooks.
